# War Eagle Mine (Shoshone)

We’ve visited this mine many times since first exploring it in 2001\. It is well-known and well-traveled but so extensive that it is still fun to explore. The mine has miles of drifts and stopes across at least nine levels. It has a few hard-to-reach passageways, and there are connections I still haven’t seen. You can easily spend all day underground, and we have quite a few times.

This lead, zinc, and silver-producing mine has been worked and reworked over its long history but was most productive from 1906 to 1928 and 1940 to 1957\. It was an important lead producer during WWII.
