Frequently Asked Questions

Subscription and Account Information

Why is most content restricted? This is a paid subscription website. You must be signed in as a paid subscriber to access most trip reports. These detailed guides represent years of exploration, research, and documentation.

How do I subscribe? New explorers can sign up here. The subscription directly supports ongoing field research, documentation, and site preservation efforts.

How do I sign in? If you haven't visited recently, you may be signed out. Click "Sign In" (upper or lower right corner), enter your email address, and check your inbox for a sign-in link. We use email verification rather than passwords for security. Note that sessions are browser-based, requiring separate sign-ins on each device.

Can I cancel my subscription? Yes. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime through your Account page.

How do I change my profile picture? Your avatar is managed through Gravatar.

Is my information shared with third parties? No. Your privacy is respected and protected. Your information remains confidential.

Location Information and Site Ethics

Why do you share location information? Education is the best protection for historical sites. In today's connected world, many locations are readily discoverable through various online sources. By providing context and history, visitors develop greater appreciation and respect for these places. See Rock Art Etiquette for responsible visitation practices.

Why are some sites not shared? Some locations are environmentally sensitive or culturally significant, requiring discretion to ensure their protection. Or I've been asked not to share them.

Will you provide locations for sites not fully disclosed? Please don't ask for undisclosed locations. When specific coordinates are omitted, it's a deliberate choice to protect sensitive areas.

What if I discover inaccuracies in site descriptions? While I approach documentation with thorough research, I'm primarily a history-focused explorer, not a mining equipment expert. Contact me with corrections or updates about any location—your field knowledge helps improve this resource for everyone.

How do you decide which trips to post? New explorations are prioritized, but older trips are added regularly or by specific request.

Contribution and Community

How often are newsletter updates sent? Newsletter emails with exploration updates and site news typically go out every couple of months or quarterly. I will not spam you.

Can I contribute content? Yes! Visit the Contribute page for guidelines on submitting your exploration reports.

Are you active on social media? Not really. You can occasionally find updates on Instagram @guystarbuck or Facebook at Starbuck's Exploring.

Can I use photos or content from this site? All content—including photos, text, and videos—requires permission before use elsewhere. Please do not use my photos, text, or videos without permission.

Do you offer custom research services? Custom research services start at $100/hour. Contact me to discuss your specific project needs.
