Mahan Mine (Edwardsburg, ID)

The Mahan Mine was situated on Ramey Ridge, northeast of Edwardsburg, Idaho. Its history is poorly documented, but it appears to have produced little ore. Charles Mahan and his son were active in the area, locating claims from 1907 to 1940. I am unsure which specific claims the features pictured lay on, or when they were located.

The earliest specific mention I could find of the mine was in 1913 when the Columbia Mining Co. had claims in the area. This company owned the mill that is pictured, and sold it (presumably to Mahan) around 1917. It was reported to have a capacity of 12 tons per day, but it appears to have processed a minimal amount of ore. Much of the ore it received was hand picked float found on the hillsides around the mill. A report from 1936 said the stamp mill was abandoned by that point.

Scattered on the hillsides around the mill are numerous cabins and collapsed adits. Presumably some of these adits were the mine workings operated by the Mahans.
