Van Ness Mine

We were out on an exploration trip in the high mountains of central Nevada in 2008, and I talked our group into a side trip to check out this mining camp. It turned out to be a small camp with little left except a retort and a few buildings, but it was interesting just the same. It was a rich cinnabar mine that mainly operated in the 1920s.

The mine consists of two shafts, both of which are caving and not worth going into. The mine isn’t worth a special trip, but it is a nice spot to spend a little time at if you are in the area.
