The site crossed 500 posts this year. I'm not sure exactly when, somewhere between updating Idaho mining histories and rebuilding the map page for the third time. I'm pretty happy with the way the map turned out. It finally has clickable points that go to trips.
December was a quiet month with me spending some time organizing my library. January will be different.

Grass Canyon Petroglyphs
Native Americans passed through Grass Canyon thousands of years ago and left their marks on the basalt. I am not sure why they picked these rocks, though. There are plenty of other surfaces around that don’t have anything on them. But this spot where a basalt butte meets the wash

Cary’s Castle North Petroglyphs
In 2016, on an adventure north of Cary’s Castle (one of many), I stumbled upon these petroglyphs hidden among the granite boulders of the Eagle Mountains. Deadwood Mine Camp
The Deadwood Mine sat so far from civilization that during winter, the only way in was a two-day trip by dog sled. From early November through late June, snow buried the roads across three mountain passes. Dog teams under contract made the fifty-two-mile journey from Cascade three times a week,

Dating Historical Sites continues to be the page (not a post) with the most visits. It has remained the top page on the site for a few years now. That is nice to see.
See you in 2026!
